The borough of Buena is located within Atlantic County, with an increasing population size annually. Statistics from the United States Census of 2010 share that there were about 4,603 people showing an 18% increase from the previous recording back in 2000.

History

Charles K. Landis was a real estate developer who was instrumental in the development of Hammonton and Vineland. Landis also helped to create other smaller municipalities in Buena Borough, such as Landisville. He wanted to establish the county seat of a new county called Landis County, which would include property from the neighboring towns.

On September 1, 1948, sections of Buena Vista Township were established as a borough by an act of the New Jersey Legislature. A few months later, on May 18th, 1949, the borough of Buena was officially reincorporated. The borough's name comes from Buena Vista Township, which was named after the Mexican–American War's Battle of Buena Vista in 1847.

Madeline Barrale, a local citizen, wrote a 115-page book about the Borough's history in 1979. In 1999, Buena Borough held its first annual "Buena Day" in Bruno Melini Park to commemorate its 50th anniversary.

Geography

According to the Census, the borough has a total area of 7.57 square miles of mostly land with a slight percentage of water. The borough has a border with the following municipalities around Buena Vista Township:

• Vineland
• Franklin Township
• Gloucester County
