The community of Paulus Hook is located along the Hudson River waterfront and the Morris Canal by Liberty State Park. It is only one mile from Manhattan, and has undergone so much development and renovation, making it a prime spot for residents.

Part of the name Hook, originates from the word "hoeck" which means "point of land" in Dutch with also happens to describe the placement of the land along the river.

History

Early inhabitants from the Leni Lenape tribe, named the land Arressick or also Arisheck Island, meaning a large grassy meadow. In 1633, settlers first occupied Paulus Hook and later was acquired by Abraham Isaacscen Verplanck. Up until the American Revolution, both the English and Dutch operated the land and were responsible for the Pavonia Massacre in 1643.

Only a few decades later, the Third Anglo-Dutch War broke out in 1672, leaving the Dutch taking over New York City and which was later recovered by England two years later.

Today's Day & Age

Jersey City has been going through the gentrification process over the last several years. Since the attacks on September 11th, 2001, tons of new constructions have been established. Constructions such as the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail, Liberty State Park, and the ferry that connects Jersey City to Manhattan for better transportation.

Since the renovations and restoration have been made, the real estate market in Paulus Hook is booming and is constantly raising up above the general price point of the surrounding neighborhoods due to its vicinity to the waterfront and the assortment of activities and entertainment available.
