History

Marlton was established in 1676 by Welsh and English farmers but made its first appearance in the early 19th century. The name Marlton is derived from marl clay, which happens to be a common local soil found throughout the land where Martlon is situated.

In the 1830s and 1840s, the discovery of the marl material aided local businesses and farmers, resulting in the first "building boom." Marl was still being extracted at Marlton until 1930 when the mines were closed.
