The town of Secaucus is a part of Hudson County and is one of the most suburban communities even with its large portion of business districts including retail, manufacturing, industrialization, and transportation.

History

In 1900, Secaucus was established as a borough by the New Jersey Legislature and was later incorporated as a town in 1917. Secaucus was first known as mostly an agricultural community that grew flowers and later branched off and took on pig farms in the early 1900s. The amount of livestock being raised had grown exponentially where pigs actually outnumbered the population a whopping 16 to 1. Years later, the farming industry slowed down and the town shifted towards more of a commuter location.

Geography

Secaucus offers the chance to experience the rehabilitation of natural marshes in the town's post-industrial, post-agricultural age because it is partially enveloped by the Hackensack Meadowlands. Some marsh sections in the northeast portion of town have been covered to create a new commercial district, while others have been used to create natural pathways with signage depicting the birds and other species that can be found there.
