DWI defense lawyer in Newark, NJ near newark liberty airport

The information in this article is brought to you by the DWI defense lawyers in Newark, NJ, from Levow DWI Law, P.C.. As part of the New York metropolitan area, Newark is the most populated city in the state of New Jersey and is known as a hub for shipments and transportation.

History

In 1666, Newark became a settlement for Robert Treat, an American colonist leader from New Haven. He and the Connecticut Puritans established their home on the land where Neward was situated and was gradually expanded as more settlers arrived with different religious and cultural backgrounds. The then township was given a royal charter in 1713 and later incorporated in 1798 by the New Jersey Legislature Township Act of 1798.

Over the course of about 50 years, the area was split and broken into several over townships including:

  • Clinton Township
  • Orange Township
  • Springfield Township
  • Caldwell Township, aka Fairfield Township
  • Bloomfield Township

Newark was then reincorporated in 1836 as a city and has maintained its title since. Interested in learning where the name derived from? Nothing is for certain, but it is said that Newark derived from Newark-on-Trent in England due to its influence from pastor Abraham Pierson who resided in Newark, Nottinghamshire.

Arts & Culture

Newark has iconic and historic pieces of architecture, sculptures, buildings, and places. Of those, a few of the most prominent include:

  • Several Beaux-Arts buildings
  • The Newark Museum
  • Newark Public Library
  • Art Deco buildings
  • Cathedral of the Sacred Heart
  • Gothic architectural structures
  • Newark Symphony Hall
  • Prince Street Synagogue
  • National Newark Building
  • Newark Penn Station
  • Sculptor Gutzon Borglum pieces around the city

The city also offers a booming performing arts industry for residents to take advantage of. The New Jersey Performing Arts Center hosts tons of special events and programs such as international music festivals, theater performances, and dance shows. The Art Center is also home to the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra and State Opera.
